Adding additional displays to your computer just got easier with the new vDeck USB to VGA graphics adapter from Sewell (http://sewelldirect.com/Sewell-vDeck-USB-to-VGA-External-Display-Adapter.asp), allowing you to turn any USB 2.0 port into an auxiliary VGA monitor port. Sewell Direct, a household name in computer display devices since 1983, is gearing up to release this new cost effective way to add a second display port to your Mac or PC.

The vDeck adapter revolutionizes the way you use your computer by adding more screen space to work with. Multi-tasking with spreadsheets, graphs, documents, applications, and programs between multiple displays creates a stress-free way to increase productivity and reduce mistakes.

A study released earlier this year by Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering via Computer Weekly (ComputerWeekly.com) measured productivity to increase by 35.5% when 3 monitors are used as one (known as extended desktop mode). A user is capable of connecting up to five vDecks via five USB ports to use up to a total six monitors in extended desktop mode, or in mirror mode.

The vDeck USB to VGA adapter adds an extra VGA monitor or projector in standard or widescreen (up to 1600 x 1200 standard and 1680 x 1050 widescreen) formats using a single USB 2.0 port. With the benefits of a USB to VGA solution, setting up an additional display promises Sewell’s famous 30 second set-up, which makes it a worthy companion to your laptop when you’re on the go.

Greg Vandagriff, manager of Sewell Direct’s sales division works directly with large companies that have been updating their workstations with multiple monitors using this technology and he notes that “many of (Sewell Direct’s) customers seem to appreciate the ease of setup.” He also notes that “a substantial amount of our users simply are switching from desktop to laptop and just don’t want to sacrifice the screen real estate and productivity they enjoyed before.”

Sewell’s vDeck USB to VGA graphics adapter is slated to start shipping on the 21st of September and is available immediately for pre-order at www.SewellDirect.com.

Sewell Direct is an internet retailer/distributor of audio video and computer components since 1983. Their product line includes cables, adapters, boosters, switches, and everything else you’d need to connect your equipment.

Highlighting a Bright Spot in a Down Economy, Career Step to Re-launch Online Healthcare Training Program http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/education/highlighting-a-bright-spot-in-a-down-economy-career-step-to-re-launch-online-healthcare-training-program/ http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/education/highlighting-a-bright-spot-in-a-down-economy-career-step-to-re-launch-online-healthcare-training-program/#comments Thu, 20 Jan 2011 17:51:38 +0000 admin http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/?p=301

Provo, Utah June 30, 2010

Careers in healthcare fields are one of the bright spots in an otherwise down economy. In an effort to highlight these job opportunities, Career Step, a leading online healthcare education company, has re-launched its Inpatient and Outpatient Medical Coding and Billing program.

“Career Step has always focused its training programs on fields that show continued patterns of growth,” said Mike Hodgson, Career Step’s Vice President of Enrollments. “We’ve chosen to re-launch our Inpatient and Outpatient Medical Coding and Billing program this month to draw attention the fact that the number of jobs in this field aren’t following the nationwide trend—there are more opportunities now than there were several years ago, and the field is still growing.”

Both the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) have recently released reports on the number of jobs the Medical Coding and Billing field will generate within the next few years. The BLS classifies medical coding and billing professionals as a part of the Medical Records and Health Information Technician field and projects a 20% increase in employment before 2018—representing over 37,000 new jobs. This projected growth will be triggered and sustained by the aging population and the increasing number of medical tests, treatments, and procedures. In comparison, the AHIMA study estimates that there will be a shortage of over 75,000 health information specialists, including medical coding and billing professionals, before 2014.

The Career Step Inpatient and Outpatient Medical Coding and Billing training program allows students to train for a new medical coding and billing career in less than a year while still ensuring that they gain the skills needed to gain employment after graduation. The program also allows students to broaden their career opportunities by simultaneously training for both the inpatient and outpatient coding specialties. For more information on the medical coding and billing field or Career Step’s training program, visit CareerStep.com/IOMCB-Top10 or call 1-800-246-7837.

Under Armour and Wounded Warrior Project Honor U.S. Armed Forces with Specially Designed Football Uniforms http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/sports/under-armour-and-wounded-warrior-project-honor-u-s-armed-forces-with-specially-designed-football-uniforms/ http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/sports/under-armour-and-wounded-warrior-project-honor-u-s-armed-forces-with-specially-designed-football-uniforms/#comments Sat, 27 Nov 2010 22:31:49 +0000 admin http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/?p=219 Baltimore, MD October 11, 2010

Under Armour (NYSE:UA), the Baltimore-based leader in sports performance apparel, footwear and accessories, announced today the creation of unique college football uniforms for the University of Utah, Texas Tech University, and University of Maryland. This marks the second year Under Armour has designed custom uniforms to honor the U.S. Armed Forces, with cleats being a new addition for this year. The gear is part of the UA Freedom initiative, launched in July 2010 to support our nation’s military and public safety heroes, and Under Armour’s partnership with Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit organization that provides programs and services for injured service members and their families.

The University of Utah Utes, Texas Tech University Red Raiders, and University of Maryland Terrapins will be outfitted in head-to-toe custom digi-camouflage Under Armour uniforms and cleats for their game day match-ups versus the Texas Christian University and the University of Missouri respectively on November 6, 2010. The University of Maryland Terrapins will feature their uniforms on November 20, 2010 against Florida State.

The uniforms were designed in an effort to recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served and those that continue to serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. Each team will replace their last names on their jerseys with a core value embellishment – Duty, Honor, Courage, Commitment, Integrity, Country, or Service. Texas Tech is the official Under Armour Freedom game, and each Red Raider will have “Freedom” on the back of their jersey as a tribute the brave men and women that the initiative supports.

“The custom uniforms and gear provide us with an opportunity to engage college football fans and athletes, while uniting together to support the overall mission of Wounded Warrior Project,” said Kevin Plank, founder and CEO of Under Armour. “We are committed to honoring our nation’s troops who risk their lives protecting our house and we are proud to support them through these games and beyond.”

The custom game day jerseys will be auctioned off on each of the Universities’ websites the following Monday of each game with a 100% of the proceeds going to Wounded Warrior Project. Under Armour school-specific fan gear will be on sale at university bookstores and www.underarmour.com with a portion of the proceeds going to Wounded Warrior Project as well.

“Under Armour continues to believe in our mission of honoring and empowering wounded warriors. These games broaden our voice to universities and their athletic programs in a unique way,” said Steven Nardizzi, executive director of Wounded Warrior Project. “The Under Armour teams wearing these specially designed uniforms and cleats will generate awareness of our organization and the men and women that continue to fight for our great nation.”

Thousands of our nation’s armed forces have been wounded during the current military conflicts. WWP assists wounded warriors and their families through a holistic approach to their recovery, providing programs and services to aid their physical rehabilitation and improve their mental health and well-being. WWP empowers warriors with essential tools to not just survive their injuries but to thrive and achieve personal and professional success.

As part of UA Freedom, the collegiate football games that support Wounded Warrior Project demonstrate the ongoing commitment to honor our nation’s wounded service members through monetary and product donations. Join the effort by purchasing WWP/UA-branded product and by gifting an Under Armour® WWP backpack to an injured hero. For more information, visit http://www.underarmour.com/freedom.

Distributor leaders who gave presentations included Mardy Eger, Margie Aliprandi, Sunny Hand, Tim Howsden, and Yuka Sakurai. Neways featured an open mike on Friday evening for distributors to share how Neways has helped them with their health or finances.

In addition, attendees heard from motivational speaker Kevin Hall. “What an amazing gift he was to all of us who had the privilege of listening to him,” said distributor Michelle Rodarte.

Platinum Protection Opens New Corporate Headquarters in American Fork Utah http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/business/platinum-protection-opens-new-corporate-headquarters-in-american-fork-utah/ http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/business/platinum-protection-opens-new-corporate-headquarters-in-american-fork-utah/#comments Wed, 24 Nov 2010 14:36:39 +0000 admin http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/?p=216 Platinum Protection Corporate Headquarters Lobby

American Fork, UT January 19, 2010

With room needed to house a growing employee base, Platinum Protection has moved its national corporate headquarters to American Fork Utah. The move to the new building caps off a successful first three years of business for the young alarm company, and with over 100,000 customers nationwide, Platinum executives view the new office as a milestone in its success.

“Our new building means more than just having a nice place to work,” said Jared Hallows, CEO of Platinum Protection. “It represents how far we’ve come in the short period of just three years and what we have to look forward to in the future.”

Located just off I-15 at the North end of Utah County, the new building provides a close commute for employees coming from either Utah or Salt Lake County.

“We have many employees from both Utah and Salt Lake County and we wanted to make their commute a little shorter,” said Jared Hallows, CEO of Platinum Protection. “Being right next to the freeway is also a plus, not only because of the shorter commute, but also because people will be able to see our sign as they drive by every day.”

With the move to the American Fork office, Platinum’s sales and customer service departments will be combined under one roof as well as other major corporate departments including installation, licensing, information technology, finance and marketing.

“One of the things we’re most excited about with the new building is having all the corporate departments in the same building,” said Jared Hallows, CEO of Platinum Protection. “This will allow greater employee collaboration and reduce the burden of having to travel between two separate corporate offices.”

The new workspace features several amenities including two break rooms, two balcony’s, a large commons area, a full server room, and a 250-person training room surrounded by glass with an open view of the Wasatch Mountains. Many employees began work at the new building on January 11th but a ribbon cutting and a public open house will take place on Wednesday, January 20th at 4pm.

With the influx of smart phones being purchased, more and more adult content apps and software have been and are being created. CBS News reported on July 29th 2010 that the Porn Industry Sees Opportunity In Latest iPhone. These apps are finding their way into our children’s phones and ultimately into their pockets where they are available 24 hours a day without parental supervision. Laws are not keeping up with technology, and the laws that are on the books don’t leave police the room to help protect them if they are found with these images.

Parents need resources to help educate their children on the dangers of the internet as well as the danger of having images and content on their phones that could damage their futures. Inline Plumbing, a Utah based plumbing company, is a pioneer in this cause and an endless resource for learning the ins-and-outs of conscious household practices and the financial perks that can be realized by using such programs.

“There has never been a more cost effective time to make your home green,” says Ben Blakely, owner of the Salt Lake City based company Inline Plumbing.

Between the multitude of tax credits and manufacturer’s rebates offered these days, the power is truly in the hands of the consumer to adopt environmentally mindful practices while reaping the financial benefits. Though it may sound like a daunting task, you are not left alone to fend for yourself. Inline Plumbing is a company that understands the opportunities available and strives to make sure that their customers are aware and educated on their options. This is why they have begun producing short but helpful YouTube videos, which teach consumers about energy-efficient home appliances.

Inline Plumbing also strives to keep up on all of the applicable manufacturer rebates and government tax incentives associated with purchasing an energy-efficient home appliance. For example, Inline Plumbing knows that the government is offering a tax credit of 30% (up to 00) for approved water heaters, furnaces, and boilers while Questar is offering a variety of rebates for green updates:

  • off for a basic energy star rated water heater.
  • off for a tank less water heater. This heater does not have a pilot light and does not have to maintain heat to a large amount of water but it will produce all the hot water you can use.
  • off a high efficiency furnace.
  • off a high efficiency boiler.
  • off a programmable thermostat.

Xactimate Express Helps Insurers Settle Small Claims http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/business/xactimate-express-helps-insurers-settle-small-claims/ http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/business/xactimate-express-helps-insurers-settle-small-claims/#comments Sat, 20 Nov 2010 23:14:15 +0000 admin http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/?p=44 Orem, UT

Insurance professionals can now use Xactimate Express TM, the latest product innovation from Xactware, to settle small structural and contents claims by phone.

Xactimate Express is an online application that lets desk adjusters efficiently gather loss information, create detailed estimates, and settle small claims over the phone. “We built Xactimate Express with ease of use in mind to optimize the claims experience for both insurers and policyholders,” said Jim Loveland, Xactware’s president and CEO. “With just a minimal amount of training, anyone from new users to seasoned pros can generate the comprehensive estimates needed to settle small claims swiftly.”

Xactimate Express contains an intuitive dashboard and many features that help adjusters quickly estimate replacement costs for structural and contents items, reduce claims cycle times, and improve customer satisfaction, while keeping training needs and technical questions to a minimum.

For example, if a burglar breaks into a home and steals personal belongings, an adjuster can immediately discuss the loss with the policyholder over the phone. As the policyholder describes the loss, the adjuster can compile a list of structural repair items, such as replacing broken glass, repairing drywall, and painting. Up-to-date local construction costs are used to calculate the cost of repairs. At the same time, the adjuster can enter replacements for stolen property, such as an iPod or a Sony VAIO laptop. Xactimate Express provides the adjuster with costs for these stolen items based on prices charged by major retailers. If an item is obsolete, Xactimate Express will suggest similar items with the same features.

“Xactimate Express is a huge step forward for the insurance industry,” said Loveland. “Policyholders will be pleased to receive immediate settlements based on current local costs. Insurers will see significantly improved efficiency from their desk adjusters, and they will be able to adjust more losses over the phone without having to deploy adjusters to the field.”

Visit Xactware’s website to learn more about Xactimate Express.

India Outsources Tech Jobs to Utah-based Software Company. http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/business/india-outsources-tech-jobs-to-utah-based-software-company/ http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/business/india-outsources-tech-jobs-to-utah-based-software-company/#comments Thu, 18 Nov 2010 04:25:49 +0000 admin http://utahvalleynewsbuzz.com/?p=48

Duluth, MN (Vocus)

Anyone who’s ever called for tech support on their laptop or software knows the IT world’s dirty not-so-secret: a huge amount of technology jobs are outsourced to India. But Mozenda, a Utah-based software company, is reversing that trend, bringing jobs and capital back to the United States.

Mozenda is a cutting-edge web data mining software that allows businesses to gather relevant data from all across the web. Companies can keep an eye on competitor’s prices, gather information about promising job recruits, and track what is being said about their business online. In the past, much of this work was done by programmers in places like India. Now, many of the most innovative technology companies in India are using Mozenda to grow their businesses, and sending the profits back to the U.S.

“Going into this we knew that inexpensive overseas labor would be our biggest competitor, but once Indian companies started using our software, it validated our product,” said Mozenda CEO Brett Haskins.

“We have companies using our software in ways we could have never imagined, including major Fortune 100 firms who used to outsource this technology directly to India,” Haskins continued. “Our program is simply less expensive and more reliable then a team of offshore programmers.”

Even with the touch-and-go economy, Mozenda’s subscription-based business has boomed, growing over 200% in the last business period. Its rules-based software can grab and mash content in any language, and Mozenda has clients in almost every country. Not bad for an all-American business tucked away in the valleys of Utah.

“It feels really good to bring technology jobs back to the USA,” Haskins said. “Not because of regulations, but because we simply have a better product.”

About Mozenda:

Mozenda technologies help companies improve their internal data management, maintain a competitive advantage in corporate intelligence, and improve marketing efficiencies. Mozenda software enables companies to dynamically extract all kinds of data from the internet using browser-based technology. Once gleaned, the data can be viewed, edited, and exported using the customized tools within the application.
